The Next Step
By Rea

"Kon-el, you're being such a baby about this. We're ready for the next step. We've come this far, it's time to go all the way."

"Rob, I'm not ready. This is too soon."

"It's not! Just trust me."

"We're not prepared for this."

"What's your hang up, SB? We've talked about this, we've been building towards this since day one..."

"I know, okay? You don't need to preach to me about this. It's just that we're... I'm not ready."

"It'll be okay, Kon. I promise."

"I don't know..."

We've got plenty of protection... it's not like anything will happen. I stocked up at the store. Here, look, plenty of protection to choose from. See? Look, this one protects against damage and illness.... this one's kinda neat. Its acts like a night light or compass... I guess. Don't give me that look, it lets us see where we're going."

"Kon, come on, I've been really patient about this."

"You've been great Rob and I'd like to experience this with you first... it's just that..."

"I thought we were friends. Partners. It's someone else isn't it? You found someone better than me. Someone more experienced."

"It's Bart, isn't it?"

"Bart? What would I want with Bart?"

"He's more experienced than I am. He can teach you things I can't."

"You're being ridiculous."

"Am I? Then why were you yesterday? I called your house. Dubbilex said you went to Manchester. I'm not stupid, Kon, I know you were with him!"

"Chill out, man! Geez. Yeah, I was there. Whaddya want me to say?"

"The truth."

"Fine. I went to Manchester to see Bart."

"What did you do there?"

"I... I didn't want to seem like a total novice. Robin, you're so perfect, all the time. You know just what buttons to push to get the best results. I wanted that too. I... was feeling inadequate so I went to Bart to get some pointers. I know you're mad, and you have every right to be, but I want you to realize that what I did, I did for us."

"Then why won't you do this?"

"Because we're not ready. I think we just need more time. More time to get know our strengths and weaknesses. More experience. I promise Rob, we'll do this. Just not today."

"Will you wait for me?"

"This wasn't how I wanted it to be... but okay... I guess I can hold off. It's not like my Final Fantasy game is going anywhere."

"Thataboy! I promise Rob, when the time comes, we'll enter the final level and shove that boss' head up its own ugly butt!"
