HelLex III–Frozen Felicitations-Part 11

Dick took me to Dr. Leslie Thompkins clinic early the next day because no one would believe me when I said I was fine.

"Hi Dr. Leslie," Dick waved as he dragged me into the clinic still protesting.

"Hello Dick. Who is this pretty young lady? You finally find someone to settle down with and are bringing her to me for approval?"

We both blushed. "Uh... this is Buffy Summers."

"Hello Buffy. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Hi," I waved.

"Bruce asked me to bring her to you..."

"Oh... Buffy. Yes of course. I'm sorry I couldn't make it last night. Come with me through here to the uh..." she closed the door, "This is where I look after Bruce and my other special clients. Wait here Dick," Leslie said leaving Dick sitting in a consultation room and leading me into a room through a hidden panel in the wall.

It took her ten minutes to discover that I was indeed fine. The following forty minutes were spent explaining my physiology.

"You're a Slayer?" she asked.

"I'm supposed to be the only Slayer but there was this one time when I died for only a few seconds and then I was resuscitated by my friend Xander but it was long enough to create the paradox of the Chosen two but I'm the only one active at the moment. Faith is... indisposed for the time being."

"Oracles files tell me that you have enhanced healing..."

"I certainly do. I think it's the only reason I don't have frostbite or something. I really am fine."

"I believe you." She consulted some papers in a file she had already created for me. I know cause she had it on the desk when we came in and it had my name on it and the printed pages in it. "What else can you tell me about you?"

"About me? In what way? I'm not allergic to anything except Spike..."

"Spike?"

"Err... he's a vampire with an anti-violence chip. Sort of like a puppy after it's visit to the vet. He's defanged."

"Oh," she said, though I knew she didn't understand. "What else is different about your physiology?"

"Uh..." I shrugged. "I know that Giles helped Oracle put those files together. It should all be there."

Dr. Leslie smiled good-naturedly. "It is. I just wanted to hear it from you."

I shrugged again. "I'm not good at story telling."

"I've read your column in the Daily Planet Buffy. You certainly tell interesting stories there."

"They aren't stories... myth exists only when people no longer believe." Leslie looked at me as if truly seeing me for the first time and I wondered what exactly she was seeing as she nodded thoughtfully.

"I'm giving you the all clear Buffy."

"Yay!" I said, bouncing off the seat.

Leslie smiled and opened the door to the room where Dick waited.

"And once again the Slayer is right!" I announced as I walked out of the examination room. "Why won't you people listen to me?" I asked Dick as I pulled my sweater on over my shirt.

"We listen, but Bruce's stubbornness has taught us to go ahead with 'procedure' anyway."

"Not just Bruce's stubbornness young man," Leslie said semi-sternly.

Dick gave her his most adorable smile before turning it on me and asking, "Ready?"

Feeling all melty. Wow. And I think it's worse since he told me he was falling in love with me. I realised he was still waiting for an answer. I smiled and nodded. "I doubt this will be the last time we see each Dr. Leslie but it was nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too Buffy. Take care of each other."

"We will," Dick promised. She waved as we left, smiling at us like a doting parent.

I giggled. "You know that Alfred and Bruce get the same look on their faces when we are together don't you?"

"I'm trying not to notice. Do you think they know something we don't?"

"I think they know what we do and aren't telling," I said softly. We hadn't discussed our conversation in Metropolis since we'd had it, the one about falling in love. I guess I haven't said anything because I don't want to hear him tell me he was wrong. The whole Angelus pretending to be Angel scene after our one night together keeps playing in my head and even though I don't love Angel like that anymore, it still stings.

"Well you know," he said casually, "That kiss you gave me yesterday to distract the Rusalka may have given us away..."

"Us? I was the one kissing you."

"But I wasn't protesting. I seem to recall kissing you back with as much enthusiasm as you kissed me... even if you were otherwise motivated."

"Well I couldn't just strip you naked and have my way with you to get their attention now could I?" I muttered as he unlocked my door, then blushed redder than Willow's hair when I realised he'd heard me. "Uh..." I began.

That lopsided grin appeared on his face. "I would have helped you get the suit off if you'd wanted to do it that way."

If possible I blushed brighter. "Uhm... I just... it was... erm..."

"I know what you meant Buffy. Using sexual energy was a good plan..."

"Was the plan that transparent?"

"If it had been Batman and Catwoman they would have done the same."

"Or Batman and Oracle," I giggled as I took my seat in the car.

He chuckled as he sat down as well. "You may be right Buffy. Oh, have you got a dress for the New Years party?"

"Yup. I brought one with me that I know you'll like. Don't pout just because you don't have an excuse to spend money on me. I'm used to having to be careful with money."

He chuckled. "Ok. So home?"

"To Wayne Manor," I nodded. I turned the radio on and sang along as we drove through Gotham City. Occasionally Dick joined in. He has a nice voice.

The car pulled up in front of Wayne Manor. Dick cut the engine and looked at me.

"Tim's dad is still away which means..."

"Prying eyes..." I leaned closer. We were so close I could feel his warm breath brush my face.

Something hard hit the car windows, instantly putting Dick and I on alert. We looked out snow-covered windows on opposite sides of the car. "There," I pointed.

"I've got Willow on this side..." Dick slowly opened the car door and grabbed up a handful of snow.

I giggled and did the same. "Are you sure about this Willow?"

"I've helped slay alongside the best. I can handle a snowball fight."

"Aw man!" Tim exclaimed as the snowball Dick had made hit him smack on the forehead.

Willow squealed and ducked the first snowball I threw, but couldn't move fast enough to avoid the second one as well. "Impressive but you'll have to do better than that."

For twenty minutes the dignified, snow covered lawns of Wayne Manor knew the very undignified squeals, giggles, shouts and laughter that are a snowball fight. For twenty minutes Willow and Tim were pelted with snowballs from Dick and I. Tim should have known better than to attack while we were protected by the car doors. Eventually they both gave up trying to attack and decided defence was the better and only option.

The gates creaked in protest as they slowly gaped open again and a car drove slowly up the snow-laden driveway. The snowball fight stopped as it approached.

Giggling and soaked, Willow took the opportunity to run into the house and up the stairs to her room to change clothes. Dick got into his car and drove it away to the garage. Tim and I followed Willow inside and were met with Alfred's disapproving looks as he handed us towels to dry ourselves. We were spared the looks when the doorbell was rung.

Two young men about Tim's age stood on the other side of the door. "Hi Alfred," they said in unison.

"Master Tim. Masters Buzz and Kip are here."

"Hey Buzz, Kip. This is Buffy, Dick's girlfriend. These are my friends Buzz and Kip." I waved hello. "We'll see you later Buffy, Alfred," he said as he handed Alfred the towel and went back out the door.

"Do be careful Master Tim," Alfred called out unheeded.

"I didn't know I'd been given that status Alfred. Did you?"

"Does it bother you Miss?"

"Of course not," I grinned. "I just like to be aware of these things, though I'm not *entirely* sure Dick feels the same way." I restrained the sigh I felt. "Is it safe?"

"With those rambunctious ruffians out of the house for the rest of the day, I should think so."

"Later," I smiled vanishing behind the grandfather clock.
